FOOTBALLDIARIES

This is the story of the day I was so sick that all I did was sleep throughout the day!!

Since I hadn’t played in 3 days and was missing football, I decided I will go and play. I had a feeling that playing will heal my minimal fever and throat infection.

I am not a totally stupid person though :p I had decided that, one, I will play light, and second, I will sit it out if I don’t feel fit enough to play.

Thankfully I played fine and guess what!! I actually felt better after playing (both physically and emotionally).

Today’s game was about me learning a very important lesson, the one I had been struggling with, for a while.. It was about drawing boundaries and voicing out my opinion. That makes me realize, it was throat infection I was struggling with and our throat chakra gets blocked at times when we don’t express ourselves. Who knows, could be that expressing myself while playing played a part in my healing

How I expressed myself while playing was by assertively telling my team-mate (who was playing goalie) to tone down his aggression and play as a team. While I don’t have a problem with anyone playing aggressively, since I myself do so, his aggression was such that it was bringing the spirit of the game down and was showing in the form of irritation.

Being the defender who remains closest to the goalkeeper, I could feel his energy impacting the game. A soft spoken person like myself, who has characteristics of a people-pleaser too (trust me, I am working on that), it was difficult for me to communicate to him to take his irritation a notch down and focus on coordinating better with the team.

I did that twice, not just once, and assertively so. We ended up winning the game, but it didn’t make me feel as good as every other time because a part of me was feeling guilty for being assertive (which to me seemed rude).

But now I know that these are my initial steps to draw my boundaries and express myself rather than letting others dictate my game (in the field and out of the field).

I am happy that what I have not been able to do off the field, I was able to do while playing. And I am confident that it will show everywhere in my life soon!

To playing and learning & having fun⚽
