Some games aren’t about the play!

The Valentine’s Day game that is not about anything related to Valentine’s!!
The fun part though was that our group being the most creative, played a Singles V/S Committed game! (Admire our creativity later maybe :P)
This game held a special place in my heart, not because it was Valentine’s (I don’t really feel any different about this day) but because a very special friend of mine who lives in US now was back in India for 2 weeks and this was the last game we were going to play together in his current trip.
Playing together (be it in the same team or the opposite) is a love language, especially when you play with someone super close to you who loves football only as much (can’t say any more than I do, might just be impossible :p)
I was very excited about playing with my best friend even though we didn’t have the best lineup.
This game was not at all about what I learnt from it, or what it taught me. It was about the warmth I felt even after playing a not-so-challenging game, but with my friend.
This day helped me realize that sports is more than just winning/losing or doing my best everyday. (This is coming from a very competitive person, so trust my lived experience). It’s about the messy experience with its bittersweet moments.
At times, it’s about playing with your people, bonding over those passes maybe, winning/losing together, sharing that feel of after-game high while cooling down even though you didn’t like that particular game much.
This game for me was about sharing the intimacy with my best friend of just being at the best place in the world where just having football at our feet means the world to us, and sharing that space together
This game was about deepening our bond over football and to a drive back full of warm conversations.
Cheers to a life full of football games
